Project Description

The Stool was made from an oak that was felled in the Great Storm of 15th October 1987. One of an estimated 15 millon trees that were felled that night

One of my customers was happy for me to retrieve the oak from the grounds of their property. It was quite a task as it was around eight feet long and at least two feet diameter . That adds up to a heavy lump of wood.  It had to be hauled from the opposite side of a twelve foot wide ditch using a chain of webbing strops and my Landrover and then manhandled into the back. With a serious rear over hang the landrover creaked its way to the nearest sawmill. Luckily only a couple of miles away at Wrecclesham.  The oak yielded enough boards to make the stool, a double bed and a few smaller items.
